About
Welcome to the Springfield Camera Club!
Founded 1960
Purpose: Promote photography as a hobby and encourage members to improve their photographic skills. The club, of Springfield, IL, accomplishes its purpose and serves its members through 3 basic elements:
· Educational programs give members opportunities to learn techniques and improve their skills. These programs use the skills and experience of persons outside the club, as well as those of club members. Program formats vary from speaker presentations to hands-on photo technique workshops.
· Competitions and critiquing sessions provide formats for members to learn how others evaluate or judge their photos and the photos of other members. Critiquing sessions indicate what might be done to improve images, especially those photos that may not have done well in competition. Constructive criticism is the approach used; not harsh comment. Both judging and critiquing give members valuable insights into how they might improve their photographic skills.
· Fellowship allows members to informally discuss a wide range of photographic subjects and interests, including exchanges of ideas and techniques. Our membership consists of photographers of all ages and skill levels, from beginners to advanced amateurs, who enjoy a variety of subjects (such as landscapes, nature, portrait, travel, wildlife, contemporary, photojournalism, and architecture) and who use various formats (digital, slides, prints, color, black and white, etc.)
Meetings: Meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month, although meeting frequency is subject to change, for example in the summer months (in recent years, summer meetings have included a photo scavenger hunt, photo shoot at an interesting location, and a family picnic) and during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season. Meetings last one to two hours, and are held at the First Christian Church, 700 South Sixth Street, Springfield (between Cook and Lawrence.)
The parking lot is just south of the Church. We meet in the Church’s lower level; access is through the side entrance off the parking lot (use the buzzer at the door for access as needed.) Guests and prospective members are always welcome and no prior notice is necessary to attend. Our calendar of events will be updated if there is any change to our regular schedule.
